Brad and I had a wonderful
mother/son bonding experience while fishing with Bill
McBurney for striper bass on Lake Powell. After a wonderful
dinner at the Lodge the night before, Brad and I rose early
to meet Bill at the dock where we boarded his comfortable,
safe boat. Bill took us out quite a ways into one of the
lake’s channels and we immediately started casting for striper
using 8 & 10 wt. flyrods. Bill was patient with me as I
“practiced” getting the heavy line out to the fish. He has
a wonderful sense of humor and is a joy to fish with. We caught
some great fish that day, in spite of the dreadful Arizona sun.
Bill was such a gentleman that he set up a chair with umbrella
to keep the sun off me. Of course the guys joked around all day
calling me “Georganne, the Fishing Diva”. I was in seventh heaven
due to the combination of spending quality time with my eldest son
in such a beautiful location and catching these powerful acrobatic
fish on a flyrod. What a great day we had! It’s adventures like
these, shared with your kids, that make memories to last a lifetime!

Bill McBurney, owner and operator of Ambassador Guide service,
has the distinction of holding the first permit ever issued for the
river portion of the Glen Canyon Recreation Area at Lee’s Ferry;
therefore one can only imagine the wealth of experience he possesses
fishing these waters. Lee’s Ferry is a premier tailwater fishery on
the Colorado River in Northern Arizona, offering rainbow trout and
rainbow hybrids typically measuring between 14 and 20” that can be
seen in it’s crystal clear waters

Bill’s current specialty, however, is flyfishing for these stripers
on Lake Powell. He is equally versed and equipped in conventional fishing
gear and techniques, possessing over 27 years of experience in all types of
fishing. Catch his t.v. show,
Ambassador Outdoors
which airs on the Sportsman’s Channel.
Ambassador Guide Service offers 26’ boats for your fishing
comfort, as well as excellent, high quality equipment, personalized
instruction, as well as flyrod rentals. A 4000’ paved landing strip
is available nearby for those who wish to fly in.
Check out Bill’s website at www.AmbassadorGuides.com
for further information, fishing reports, pricing, etc. and/or sign up for his
newsletter. Believe me, stripers on a flyrod are a thrill equal to
saltwater flyfishing, yet we can do it right here in our own backyard!
